Subject:Cyprus-UK Business Forum

At the very successful Cyprus – UK Business Forum, which took place at Bloomberg’ s futuristic Headquarters in London on Tuesday 8 November 2016, leading figures from the UK-Cyprus business community presented the significant opportunities that now exist and the advantages of Cyprus as a location for regional headquarters.

The Minister for Energy, Commerce & Industry Mr Yiorgos Lakkotrypis led the delegation from Cyprus and delivered a keynote speech on the economy and key growth drivers. Mr Lakkotrypis highlighted the main advantages of Cyprus with its EU and Eurozone membership, reliable legal system, strategic location, sound taxation system, well-developed infrastructure, human talent, ease of doing business and quality of life. He pointed to tourism and hospitality, energy, shipping, professional services, investment funds and technology and innovation as the main sectors for investment.

Michael Izza, CEO of ICAEW, addressed the 180 business leaders who attended the event on how Brexit may affect the Cyprus-UK relationship and how Cyprus could serve as the gateway into Europe for British business.

The High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus to the UK, Mr Euripides L. Evriviades, delivered the welcome address, followed by the Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr  Marios Tsiakkis and the President of the House Standing Committee on Trade and Industry Mr Angelos Votsis. 

The Cyprus-UK Business Forum was organised by the Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry & Tourism and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry, supported by the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency, the Cyprus-UK Business Association, the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council, COBCOE, the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Enterprise Europe Network and the European Commission.
